1. What is therapy?
Therapy, also referred to as psychotherapy, counseling, or talk therapy, is a process where a professional trained in psychology helps a person take more effective control of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This process requires a basis of trust and clients' willingness to talk about sensitive issues with their therapists. Confidentiality is protected by state and federal laws as well as ethical standards.
2. What kind of training do therapists have?
A psychologist typically has a doctoral degree in psychology such as a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. Mental Health Counselors hold Master's degrees.
3. What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health issues. Their primary role is in the management of medications and most psychiatrists have minimal training in talk therapy. Psychologists receive intensive training and supervision in conducting psychotherapy, or talk therapy. Psychologists' niche in the mental health field is psychological testing. Psychological tests can be used to provide additional information about clients that sometimes cannot be obtained simply by talking. Dr. Davis uses personality assessment tools such as the MMPI-2-RF and the Rorschach Inkblots.
4. What will happen at the first visit?
You will be asked to talk about what is going on in your life that led to your decision to get help. The Intake will cover a broad overview of a lot of areas of your life. At the end of the session, you will work with your therapist to decide on goals of therapy and the course of treatment. All sessions typically last 50 minutes.
5. What forms of insurance do you take?
Most forms of insurance are accepted. A lot of people are surprised that nearly all insurance plans cover mental health treatment. Co-pays and deductibles can be paid with cash, check, or credit/debit card.
6. I've failed a lot of attempts to lose weight, why will it be any different with Dr. Davis?

Most of all, he will offer you encouragement and support. Others have lost up to 32 pounds in 6 months, you can do it, too!
